Get to Know the Baxters

Since starting my blog, I am honestly not sure that I have ever shared who the Baxters are and the journey behind us.

On the blog, today, I’ll be sharing our journey. I will be the first to say that this journey has been anything but easy. It has been full up triumphs and challenges. But by pouring into ourselves, our marriage and our children through lots of communication, unconditional love, consistency and commitment to ourselves and God that has brought us this far.

Willie and I met while attending the same church. We were introduced through a mutual friend, and we instantly clicked. I can recall us talking on the phone for hours until we would fall asleep. Since we both had been previously married and subsequently divorced. As a divorcee with 3 daughters dating was the furthest thing from my mind. But, it didn’t mean that I stopped praying, writing and and talking to God about my husband. Sis, I had a list of nonnegotiable’s and I was not about to compromise. I honestly believe that through my period of being single my intentionality with self-care and knowing my self worth was birthed.

We were wed in a small ceremony with our children and a few close friends. Which now resulted in us being a blended family of 6 daughters and two sons. All of our children are adults with the exception of our youngest Kourtney. Unfortunately growing up I was not afforded the opportunity of having a loving father daughter relationship with my Father. Which is the true passion behind my desire to dismantle the stereotype of the black father, and family.

Willie works for a city municipality and I am currently a stay at home mom navigating the process of homeschooling Kourtney. Somewhere on this journey we purchased a house and begin making our home our haven. Which is how the blog became, and I have been blessed to connect with so many amazing women and a few men by sharing not only consistently but authentically.

My blog, first started with me just sharing things that interested me but has not evolved to me striving to meet the needs of my community. As we begin this New Year, you will see more of us sharing our day to day instead of the picture perfect highlights. Please know that our life is far from perfect. We’ve had our share of struggles and obstacles like everyone else. But, we are determined to stay that course and strive for progress over perfection. I hope that you enjoyed this peek into our lives. Because, although some of you have been following us for awhile you don’t really know us.

If you are new here thanks so much for being a part of our family and joining us on this journey.

Now, were there any questions not answered in this get to know us post? Meet me in the comments and let’s chat!
