Favorite Family Pastimes
Life in the 21st century moves at a faster pace and it feels like we’ve lost our favourite family pastimes. Since I’m always looking for ways to be intentional about spending quality time with my family, we’ve always been fans of family game night.
Try a family game night! It’s wholesome, simple fun, and it’s best served with special treats the whole family will enjoy!
There are a couple of nights a week when we have regular activities that we attend. To maintain a sense of balance, we work hard to protect our other evenings. Although something special or out of the ordinary might come up, those are the exception, not the rule. Evenings together at home after full days have become a special part of our family life, and if you peeked inside our home on a Friday evening, you would see us having Family Game Night!
Family Game Night may be one of the easiest ways to create family fun! Here’s a list of family game night ideas to make it a night everyone will look forward to! I’m a firm believer in seizing the small moments with kids, like 10 minutes to play a game. But I’m also a believer in making simple activities feel extra special. There are so many family game night ideas that do just this!
Here are nine tips for an awesome family game night:
Make it a Habit ( and Don’t Break Your Promise)
Take turns choosing the game
Introduce new games often
Create a great setup
Have snacks as part of the night
Make food part of the tradition
Set aside a dedicated time
Turn off device and leave the out of the room
Find a game everybody enjoys
During our year at home, we really leaned into we found this simple tradition is already creating lasting childhood memories for our children. It’s something so simple I think we often overlook it as a fantastic family tradition! So pop some popcorn (or bake some cookies), grab the Uno cards, gather the family, and let me know how it goes! Start small…and see if your crew ends up loving Game Night as much as we do!
Do you have a favourite game that you love to play on family game night? I’d love for you to share it in the comments below!
