Comparison is the thief of joy!
Let me let you in on a little secret …Are you struggling with comparing yourself with others. If so, let’s not buy into the hype!
In my opinion social media makes it easier to compare our lives to others, when in reality they are controlling what we are allowed to see. Remember it’s only a highlight reel. The grass truly isn’t greener on the other side. They merely focus in on what they want us to see. So, when those thoughts of comparison creep in remember that you are merely seeing the surface. Everyone has their own issues in some shape or form.
Let’s be honest would you compare someone in a wheelchair to an Olympic athlete? Of course, not. So, stop comparing your weakness to someone else’s strength. Instead when you feel those jealous thoughts, remember that you have your own set of strengths. Because God made us all unique. Along my journey of life, I’ve learned that perspective is everything. How I see it is if all of my needs are met then I am BLESSED! Because, in my opinion wealth does not equate to JOY. Yes, you may be happier because you are financially better off. But that wealth will not solve all of your problems sadly.
Let me encourage you to instead use comparison as a motivator. If your best friend is debt free, has an emergency fund and just closed on her new home. Then use that as a motivator to budget, pay off your own debt, and establish an emergency fund of your own as you prepare to become a homeowner. If you see someone elevating in their career, use that to inspire you to return to school, or update your resume and improve your opportunities professionally.
Remember despite what society says, comparing ourselves is normal, but it doesn’t have to consume us or have a negative connotation. It only takes one of seed of doubt for the root of comparison to grow.
Meet me in the comments and let’s chat about how you can overcome comparison.
XO,
Kangelia
